چکیده

Previous studies on the molecular growth requirements for colony formation by single mammalian ceils in vitro (I-3) have demonstrated that these requirements are strongly influenced by the genetic constitution and degree of homogeneity of the cell strain employed; by the medium of previous cultivation of the cells and their treatment before inoculation; and by the treatment to which the macromolecuiar components of the medium had been subjected. When serum proteins were systematically fractionated, it was found that growth of single $3 HeLa ceils required two separate protein fractions, albumin and an ~globuiin (I). The present paper describes a medium containing synthetic micromolecular constituents and two purified protein fractions, which regularly produces colonies from single $3 HeLa cells plated in Petri dishes, with an effidency approaching I00 per cent.

Quantitative proteome analysis of human plasma following in vivo lipopolysaccharide administration using 16O/18O labeling and the accurate mass and time tag approach.

Identification of novel diagnostic or therapeutic biomarkers from human blood plasma would benefit significantly from quantitative measurements of the proteome constituents over a range of physiological conditions. Herein we describe an initial demonstration of proteome-wide quantitative analysis of human plasma. The approach utilizes postdigestion trypsin-catalyzed 16O/18O peptide labeling, tw...

Compositional differences in biomarker constituents of the hydrocarbon, resin, asphaltene and kerogen fractions: An example from the Jet Rock (Yorkshire, UK)

Soluble and insoluble fractions of the Jet Rock sedimentary organic matter have been subjected to hydropyrolysis to evaluate their biomarker content. Hydropyrolysis is the temperature-programmed pyrolysis of organic matter in an open system fixed bed reactor under high hydrogen pressure in the presence of a sulfided molybdenum catalyst. The hydrocarbon products contain fossil lipids and biomark...

Relationships between chlorophyll and ocean color constituents as they affect remote - sensing reflectance models ’

Good agreement between satellite-derived and shipboard measurements of chlorophyll a + pheophytin a concentrations results from the covariance of each of the nonwater color constituents of the ocean with pigment concentration. The specific absorption coefficient at 440 nm varies directly with the submicron chlorophyll fraction, which itself varies inversely with total chlorophyll concentration....

Microscopic and infrared spectroscopic comparison of the underwater adhesives produced by germlings of the brown seaweed species Durvillaea antarctica and Hormosira banksii.

Adhesives from marine organisms are often the source of inspiration for the development of glues able to create durable bonds in wet environments. In this work, we investigated the adhesive secretions produced by germlings of two large seaweed species from the South Pacific, Durvillaea antarctica, also named 'the strongest kelp in the word', and its close relative Hormosira banksii The comparat...
